Bought a house!! Suburbs of Philly. Has an oversize 2 car garage that wasn’t finished inside (Yay project time!). First thing i’d like to do is put a good paint / epoxy on the floor. Any recommendations? I’d like this look if possible:

Thanks!

Congrats. I’m close to closing on a house. No garage :( but I plan on closing in the car port.

No idea on the floor coating

Epoxy floor. Not sure why you’d put a terrazzo floor in a garage

15-year-old AWD VW here. I have leaks from at least 3 places. Just marking my territory. But kidding aside, when my son was first learning to ride a bike with training wheels a few years ago, he got some badass drift action thanks to a few select oil spots.

I would just do some research on the best epoxy coatings. You can color them pretty much how you want. I have a family friend who always coats his garages when he moves and a buddy who recently did his. Not sure what kind he used. I see that Quikrete does have some stuff, but it is pretty bland looking.

Good luck!

I was really hoping you’d get some decent answers as I need to do the same thing. Why change what you have currently though? Looks pretty slick!

I got my father some floor paint about 10 years ago and it still looks good. It was from sears and probably cost about $50. You paint the floor and then throw these flakes all over it and your done.

I think that’s only useful if you own an old Ford minivan.

I always thought a polished concrete floor would be nice, like the floors at the big-box home improvement stores. Epoxy looks good too and probably is better in a non-slip aspect, though.

I would recommend Rust Oleum EpoxyShield Professional Floor Coating . It comes with chips that you apply if you want for that look. Then I would use the EpoxyShield clear coat with an antislip additive. If you don’t add the antislip coating the floor will be very slippery when it is wet.

If you don’t use the flakes you can just add the antislip to the base coat and be done. We have used the Professional Floor Coating at work in our break room, tool crib and bathrooms and it has held up well there. I used the same paint on some of the floor in my basement including in a sauna. In the sauna I added SharkGrip to the paint and it the floor doesn’t get slippery at all even when wet.

That mottled/speckled terrazzo look will hide the roaches well. I'd go with tan or gray.

looks a lot like epoxy terrazzo, though you’re right, it could be epoxy-Polyurea.
I’d want Terrazzo because it lasts decades and I could just grind the top layer off if anything ever stained it.

I wanted the same thing, but it turns out epoxy is really easy to screw up without proper concrete prep. I ended up going with traditional checkered vinyl tiles and was able to do the job myself. Just food for thought.

They were VCT tiles from a local company. It seems like pricing and whatnot is pretty standard.

If you go with epoxy, use the 2 pack system. No matter what they say, 1 pack systems are no where near as good.

Fun fact: My dad is a firefighter / paramedic and the mop the garage floor everyday at least. Concrete will keep curing if it is kept moist when new till it reaches full potential. Well their floor is so hard and strong that when they have in polished the regular industrial floor polisher breaks from it. They have to have a special company come out and polish it with a massive machine. At least that is what he said.

Got more info today! So my buddy used a rustoleum product he bought at home depot. He said he would recommend doing two layers of it as he’s had some of it scratch up from dragging jackstands on the floor. Also two coats of clear if possible as it will help cover the chips completely. He also said when doing the “chips” that you should toss them up more than to the side or down as it will help them disperse more randomly.

Hope some of that helps!
